If that is considered proper use of the security framework… would be nice to have something that doesn't use try/catch.

Patch Set 1: Looks good to me, but someone else must approve
Currently the security framework works like this. I agree that it is somehow strange to catch an exception here. On the other hand this makes it really explicit and really ensures that you are aware of coding the restricted case. For know I wouldn't change it, but we can discuss if we need some true/false method for access decisions.
